Another busy summer/autumn concert season has seen the band play in a wide variety of venues this year including Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park, the opening of the Blackrock Animation Festival and Bray Sailing Club.

Particular highlights saw the band on top form performing alongside the Edmund Rice Choral Society at St Johns Church, Waterford and with the Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir at the Freemasons Hall in Dublin in aid of the Royal Hospital Donnybrook.

The band can be seen performing in various size groups over the coming Christmas period raising money for Autism. Details can be found here - if you're out shopping over the festive season please come along to support the band and this worthy cause.

46th National Band Championships of Ireland

Following on from our joint 2nd place finish in 2010, the band is delighted to have achieved an outright 2nd place finish at the 2011 Championships held at The Helix, Dublin, narrowly missing out on 1st place by just 1 point in each of the set-test and own-choice sections of the competition.

This year the band chose to play 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Paul Lovatt-Cooper for the own-choice selection and performed the demanding set-work 'Purcell Variations' by Kenneth Downie. The band produced excellent performances of both pieces on the day and now looks forward to the 2012 championships. Who knows, could we move up one position further next year? Watch this space!

Our performances can be seen on our new Videos page.

Our congratulations go to the Drogheda Brass Band for their 1st place.

The band has now completed its busy summer schedule which saw us performing at a wide variety of events and venues including the prestigious Irish Web Awards at the magnificent Mansion House, Dublin. We also have a number of engagements planned over the coming months.

In other news, the band is delighted to welcome back Mark Henderson on 2nd Horn. Mark has spent the last 2 years travelling and taking part in volunteer work for a hospital in a remote part of Indonesia.

45th National Band Championships of Ireland

The 45th National Band Championships of Ireland were held at the superb University Concert Hall Limerick on the weekend of April 17th & 18th 2010. Competing in the Section 1 Brass competition, the Stedfast Band performed 2 demanding pieces of music; the set Test-piece, Partita (Postcards From Home) by Philip Wilby and Overture Henry V by Ralph Vaughan-Williams as our own-choice Test-piece.

Preparation for these Championships began early in 2010 and the hard work of the whole band paid off as it was announced that we had finished in joint 1st place in the Own-choice section, scoring a fantastic 48 points from a possible 50. In addition, the band were placed in joint 2nd position overall by the adjudicator for the competition, Mr Timothy Reynish.

We now look forward to the remainder of our engagements for 2010 before we begin preparations for the 2011 Championships early next year.
